Description:
In-person course will run on---March 7, 2025, (9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. U.S. central (local) time, in Fort Worth, Texas.
After providing a background on digital curation life cycles and workflows, this class will walk through the steps one should consider when choosing and implementing tools that will meet your needs. Different types of tools will be discussed and demonstrated throughout the course. Hands-on activities working with tools of your choice (downloaded prior to class) will demonstrate the process of selection and management of tools. This course is being taught remotely and will be divided into 4 sessions.
Note: This course will focus on tools utilizing the Windows operating system environment. Where possible, Macintosh alternatives will be provided. In order to fully participate in this course, you must have access to a computer on which you can install, configure and use open-source software. The use of these products does not represent or imply SAA endorsement. SAA Education encourages the use of open source software and tools.

Who Should Attend:
Archivists, repository managers, practitioners, records managers and anyone responsible for implementing tools into a digital processing workflow or reviewing tools for use within their organization.
What You Should Already Know:
Participants should have a basic understanding of general archives functions and practices. Knowledge of digital archives or libraries is helpful but not required. This course complements other the Digital Archives Specialist (DAS) course such as including Digital Curation: Fundamentals for Success, Thinking Digital, and Electronic Records - The Next Step, and Preserving Digital Archives: Concepts and Competencies.
This course is one of the Tools and Services Courses in the Digital Archives Specialist (DAS) Certificate Program. If you intend to pursue the DAS Certificate, you'll need to pass the examination for this course.
