Description:

How do you know if students are really learning what you think you are teaching? This workshop distills information found in the forthcoming SAA handbook 604 Measurable Learning Outcomes for Primary Source Literacy about turning the broad objectives listed in the Guidelines for Primary Source Literacy into specific, observable learning outcomes. Learn to define criteria for success and to measure results with easy-to-implement data collection methods.

Learning Outcomes:

Students in this course will:

  • Match learning objectives to the appropriate Guidelines for Primary Source Literacy sections
  • Select Guidelines for Primary Source Literacy objectives which meet the needs of authentic primary source research tasks
  • Distinguish between broad learning objectives and measurable, observable learning outcomes
  • Identify observable behaviors and propose feasible assessment data collection methods
  • Define criteria for success
  • Adapt and customize provided measurable learning outcomes to real-world instructional contexts
