For many archivists, networking feels transactional and uncomfortable. This session reframes networking as reciprocal relationship-building and gives you a practical structure for doing it well both online and in person—including how to find the right people to connect with and what to say when you reach out. You'll also learn how getting involved with professional associations like SAA can create natural, low-pressure opportunities to build authentic relationships. Whether you're actively job searching or simply want stronger professional connections, you'll leave with message templates and a plan of action.
After attending this presentation, you will be able to:
- Identify how your existing professional skills can also be applied to networking
- Locate networking opportunities across professional associations, online communities, and in-person events
- Implement a structured approach to outreach messages
- Use LinkedIn to expand and engage with your network
