The nuanced expertise required of those in the archival profession requires consistent attention to best practices and field standards, though does not regularly incorporate financial knowledge. Building upon the information introduced in “Finance Basics for Archives Managers,” this course attends to topics of institutional financial planning, reporting, and to specific discussions of donor restrictions, endowments, and timely issues related to crisis planning and deaccessioning management through a financial lens. Participants will have the opportunity to tackle dynamic issues in institutional finance with a focus on collections stewardship and archives management.

- Comprehend the annual financial reporting process, its stakeholders/actors, process, and internal and external benefits.
- Learn how to manage donor relations with a focus on donor intent, stewardship, and financial reporting.
- Understand the financial ramifications of direct care of collections and the legal expectations of deaccessioning proceeds management.
- Be able to strategize financial planning during times of organizational change, crisis, or for departmental advocacy purposes.
- Navigate restricted funds, including endowments, and how to incorporate such funds into operating and project needs.
